General Questions
What does an independent kitchen designer actually do?
An independent kitchen designer designs your kitchen without being tied to any particular supplier or brand. Unlike a showroom designer who is limited to their own product range and motivated to sell it, an independent designer starts with what you want and works backwards to find the best products and suppliers to deliver it. At Beau Bijou Design, we design first, then recommend. This means the kitchen is always built around you, not around what we happen to sell.
How is Beau Bijou Design different from a kitchen showroom?
A showroom designer works within the constraints of their own range, their own pricing structure, and their own sales targets. We have none of those constraints. We design your kitchen based entirely on your brief, your space and your budget, then recommend whichever supplier or combination of suppliers best delivers that. We also have access to trade pricing across multiple premium suppliers, which typically saves our customers significantly compared to showroom retail prices.
How much does the design service cost?
We charge a £299 design fee to get started. This covers unlimited design revisions, ultra-realistic renders, a full product specification, supplier recommendations and ongoing support throughout the process. Importantly, this fee is deducted in full from your kitchen order when you proceed if using a recommended supplier, so if you go ahead, the design effectively costs you nothing.
What happens if I don't proceed with a kitchen order after the design?
The £299 design fee is retained as it covers the significant time invested in your design. However you keep the renders, and are free to use them however you wish and may come back to us anytime.
How do you make money if you're independent?
We charge the £299 design fee and additionally receive trade discounts from our recommended suppliers. These trade discounts are built into the supplier’s pricing structure and don’t increase what you pay. In all, cases our buying power means you pay less through us than you would going direct. We are always transparent about how we work and will never recommend a supplier for commercial reasons over your best interests.
Do you work nationally or only in Yorkshire?
Our design service is entirely remote and available nationwide. We work with customers across the whole of the UK. Home visits for measuring are currently available in Manchester, Hebden Bridge, Leeds, Doncaster and Hull. Our Hebden Bridge showroom is open for customers who wish to visit in person, and we’d always encourage a showroom visit for customers considering Hallas & Hill or any of our displayed kitchen brands.
How long does the design process take?
From initial consultation to completed design is typically 1 week, depending on the complexity of the project and how many revisions are needed. We work at your pace, some customers are happy with the first design, others refine over several weeks. There is no time pressure and no limit on revisions.
Do you Offer Kitchen Project Management?
Yes, we can design your kitchen, arrange the order and delivery dates with each supplier ensuring all products are delivered in time for installation.
Do you install kitchens?
Installation is currently available in West Yorkshire. We will add more regions but the priority is ensuring we get the right teams that share our values and offer exceptional quality.

How do I pay?
Bank transfers, debit and credit cards including American Express. We always ask for bank transfers where possible as this reduces costs ensuring we keep our prices as low as possible.
Can I order specific kitchen products through you?
We help source a wide range of high-quality kitchen products at the best prices, including renowned brands such as Quooker, Qettle, Bora, Miro, AEG, 1810, Schock and many more. Our goal is to provide you with the best options available, ensuring that your kitchen is not only beautiful but also functional and efficient.

Richard spent an hour really understanding our needs and requirements and uses a really useful 3d tool to help viaualise the kitchen. Richard has signifiant design experience, and just as importantly, signifianct procurement experience and provided knowledge on all the bits you wouldnt think about until it is too late. It was clear that lester had a good understanding of the particular units that diy sold and how to make best use of my space in relation to their specific kitchens. I must stress that I really appreciated his patience with me throughout - I had numerous questions and concerns and lester was always very prompt and helpful at keeping in touch, via email, text and calls when required. Even when it came to fitting, he happily took a call from my fitter who had some questions about some aspects.
Plans were detailed and well thought out, and the kitchen has turned out just as we hoped, making it a much more pleasant space to be which works far better for us than our previous kitchen.
Really pleased with the service and would recommend happily.

It was so helpful having Aimee instead of leaving me to work out the DIY kitchen planner! Our kitchen is quite an awkward shape and she was so knowledgable knowing which cupboards etc would fit in the spaces! After the first design she spent days speaking with us via whatsapp with so much patience after my husband got one of the measurements incorrect(!!) and she was able to make several suggestions and play around back & forth until we were totally confident with our design. I don’t know why anyone looking at a DIY kitchen wouldn’t come to you. Especially as you get the money back off your order anyway! We had originally thought we would use them because DIY kitchens design tool was tricky to work with. But they were able to source from a wider range of suppliers and so we were able to get a higher spec Pebble kitchen within budget and he was able to get quotes for both, to help us compare.

Richard designed me my kitchen using DIY kitchens. The turnaround for the design was very quick, we then discussed it and he was happy to make adjustments to the design. The ordering process was easy and straightforward and also meant all the extras were included.

Really happy with the kitchen designs we got drawn up. Working with Richard was really easy, he was really responsive and turned round the designs in great time and we were really happy with the results, putting the design ideas together so we had clear design to share with our carpenter in our new build.
