How to Measure your Kitchen
Measuring your kitchen can be daunting but following these simple steps below, will ensure accurate measurements and aid in the perfect design of your kitchen.
Draw the room…
Familiarise your self with the room and starting in one corner, draw each wall to make the rough shape.
It doesn’t need to be to scale as long as the basic shape is correct.
Don’t worry about doors, windows or any other structures in the room at this stage.
Go back to the start and sense check what you have drawn and make any corrections if needed.
Measure the room
Grab your tape measure!
Starting from the same starting point, measure the full length of each wall, ignoring any other objects such as doors and windows. If there are existing walls that will be removed, measure up to the wall at both side and add the thickness of the wall. In most instances, this will need to be checked when the wall is removed so 100% accuracy is not required. Note the measurements on each wall on your plan and draw an arrow to show what the measurement relates to.
Position doors and windows…
Again, start from one corner and note the starting and finishing position of each door and window in the room. Include anything else in the room such as soil pipes, gas meter, stop tap etc.
Measure the height of the room. Be sure to do this in various places as ceilings are rarely perfect. If the room has varying heights, be sure to note where the height changes and the height of each area.
Measure the height, width and position of each object measured.
Add any relevant info…
There may be appliances you wish to keep, specific locations where you would like certain products. Many customers like the sink perfectly central to the window, if this is you, add it in.
If you have already sourced certain products such as a range cooker, American Fridge freezer etc, make a note of its size and if already decided, where you would like it positioned. Add as much or as little information as you like, we can fill in the blanks. We always come back and check everything at the end.
Send photos of your space
Send us a few pictures of the existing space, whether that be an empty room or your current kitchen. This allows us to sense check the measurements and where applicable, choose images of doors and windows that match your own.
