A message from Richard Harker, founder and managing director

The name, Beau Bijou Design, pays homage to our son, Beau, with “Bijou” meaning jewel—a nod to the meticulous detail and quality I strive to deliver in every kitchen design. What began as a passion project has grown into a thriving business, now with our own showroom and a dedicated team committed to raising the bar in kitchen design.

Having spent years in various roles across the kitchen industry, I witnessed a common trend among many retailers—especially the national chains. Their priorities often revolve around quick customer turnover and maximising profit margins, driven by the high costs of running lavish showrooms, large staff teams, and multi-million-pound advertising campaigns. As a result, design quality and customer experience can take a back seat, with designers receiving minimal training focused more on sales than on creating exceptional kitchens.

At Beau Bijou Design, we’ve taken a different approach. Thanks to the significant volume of kitchens we design and supply each month, our buying power far exceeds that of most independent showrooms. This means we’re able to negotiate better prices with suppliers and pass those savings directly to our customers—often saving them thousands compared to traditional retailers. Our focus remains firmly on delivering outstanding design, personalised service, and genuine value, rather than simply chasing the next sale.

Recognising these industry dynamics, I saw an opportunity to establish myself as a design expert in the kitchen market. Whilst many independent kitchen designers already exist, few possess interior design experience and intimate knowledge of the kitchen industry. I wanted to make sure I gave my customers the best possible service and outcome.

Drawing upon my extensive knowledge and the connections I have cultivated over two decades, I have been able to secure excellent prices for kitchens, worktops, appliances, and other essential kitchen products.
